Avignon: The Palais des Papes is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. One time fortress and palace, the papal residence was the seat of Western Christianity during the 14th century.
l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is one of those places in Provence that is a real must see. This "island city" lies at the foot of the Vaucluse plateau in the plains of Comtat Venaissin. The town boasts over 300 antiques dealers as well as being the 2nd largest antiques’ market in France after Paris.
Set in the white rock, high on its promontory, the village of Baux-de-Provence overhangs a valley filled with olive trees, almond trees and vines. A brilliant view of Arles, the Camargue and the Alpilles can be enjoyed from the look-out points. The village is officially classified and labeled as "one of the most beautiful villages in France".
While in Baux de Provence visit the extraordinary site of Carrières de Lumières that hosts monumental multimedia shows unique in the world. The former quarry is situated in a mysterious place the "Val d’Enfer", a valley with outstanding solid mineral deposits that has long inspired artists.
End your visit in Aix en Provence. Aix-en-Provence is an aristocratic university town with elegant boulevards and over 40 fountains. Its central boulevard called the “Cours Mirabeau” is lined with plane trees – typical of Provence one would say, but in fact planted upon Napoleon Bonaparte’s orders to protect his troops from the sun!
